A glimpse into the custom jewellery design process.

Our jeweller is always making new and exciting custom designs, but this one is special. Here I have included three photographs of the process. After some discussion and rough sketches, the first photograph features the first 3D model that was made of the ring. The second photograph shows a mold that was made. The Checkerboard Cut Topaz

This brilliant pair of 14k white gold topaz studs sparkle from any angle you hold them. The secret is the checkerboard cut of the gemstones. Pale coloured stones like topaz or amethyst benefit the most from this type of cut, because otherwise the stone will look colourful around the edges but very pale in the middle table. The checkerboard cut brings life to the whole top and makes it sparkle with colour. This pair of secondhand 0.75 total carat weight topaz studs have been re-polished by our jeweller like new, but since they are estate we can pass the savings...

The Beautiful Amethyst

The bright purple amethyst in this re-polished estate ring is accented by the 40 smaller diamonds in the halo and on the band. The diamonds have a nice clarity at SI-1/SI-2 and are a decent shade of white at GH colour. The pear cut amethyst is a nice deep purple colour with great scintillation. This ring and other lively estate pieces are available today from London Gold. Interestingly, the name "amethyst" comes from the ancient Greek "methystos", which means intoxicated. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and made drinking vessels decorated with it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication....
